Democracy in India has been in rapid decline since the BJP government took over in 2014. Narendra Modi's tenure has been marred with complete capture of democratic institutions, stolen mandates, suppression of media and Opposition and flouting of Constitutional norms. The hypocrisy of selling the idea of “Mother of Democracy” to the world, while trampling on individual freedoms and liberty at home will be the legacy this government leaves behind.
