Rahul Gandhi: Congress To Conduct Economic Survey After Caste Census

The 39th day of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra commenced today from Unnao. Shedding light on the historical backdrop of Unnao, Congress General Secretary and Communications In-Charge Shri Jairam Ramesh shared on his X (Formerly Twitter) account, ‘Day 39 of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra begins in the historic city of Unnao. Apart from eminent political leaders like Umashankar Dikshit and Ravishankar Shukla (whose ancestors came from here), Unnao has produced some of the greatest names of Hindi literature, including Suryakant Tripathi Nirala, Bhagwati Charan Verma, Shivmangal Singh Suman, and Nand Dulare Bajpai. Unnao is also home to the Vyas Gaddi, which is believed to be the place where Vyas Muni wrote the Mahabharata.’

The yatra from Unnao once again displayed scenes that have been unsettling the BJP governments both at the Center and the State. Thousands of youths were participating in the procession, and chants of ‘Humara Neta Kaisa Ho, Rahul Gandhi Jaisa Ho’ resonated throughout.

Rahul Gandhi met with the victims of the UP teacher recruitment scam on the way to Kanpur. The victims laid bare the shortcomings of the BJP government in front of the Congress leader today. They explained that in 2018, the Yogi government had recruited 69,000 teachers, with 20.5% of them supposed to be SC and 27% OBC. However, in reality, only 16.6% were Dalit, and 3.86% were OBC. The irregularities were confirmed in an inquiry by the NCBC in April 2021 after the protests. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath admitted the mistake during a meeting with protesters in December 2021. Subsequently, on January 5, 2022, information about the recruitment of 6,800 SC and OBC teachers was announced. Unfortunately, due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct for the UP 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections on January 7, the teachers were unable to join, and no progress has been made since. In protest, these teachers have been demonstrating in Lucknow’s Eco Park for more than 600 days.

The affected teachers request Rahul Gandhi to take up their issue. Rahul Gandhi agrees to address the matter in Parliament, assuring the teachers that he will bring their concerns and demands before the parliamentary forum. The teachers also raised the demands for the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and corrections in the syllabus to cater to educational needs rather than promoting RSS ideological projects.

Rahul Gandhi addressed the public using the red Jeep, which has slowly become one of the symbols of the Nyay Yatra. Criticizing the central government once again, he stated, ‘Dalits, Adivasis, and backward classes constitute 73% of the population, yet they do not have a share in the governance of this country. You contribute your blood and sweat to this nation, yet your name is nowhere to be found in the media or the judiciary. That’s why we say that the most revolutionary step for India is the caste census. After that, a financial survey will be conducted, revealing who possesses how much wealth. This will make it clear that Ambani, Adani, Tata, and Birla own all the wealth of India. These are the people ruling over the entire country. They are the new rulers of India, and the public continues to suffer. Sometimes leaks happen, you lose your job, GST and demonetization are imposed, and government jobs are not available for you. The Agniveer Yojana has been created for only 73% of the people. Recruitment in the army will no longer be available for you.’

Rahul Gandhi did not stop there. Urging the youth, he said, ‘No matter how much you shout, you won’t get employment because our Prime Minister does not want Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis, who constitute 73% of the population, to get jobs. President Of India, who belongs to the Adivasi community, was not allowed to go to the Ram Temple. What kind of Ram Rajya is this? That’s why the caste census and economic survey are necessary. After that, the rule of 90% of the people will begin.’

The 39th day of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra concluded in Kanpur at 2 p.m. Following this, there will be a break in the journey on February 22 and 23. The Yatra will resume from Muradabad on the morning of February 24, covering districts such as Sambhal, Aligarh, Hathras, and Agra before stopping in Dholpur, Rajasthan. This information was shared by Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on his X (Formerly Twitter) account.
