Day 9: Rahul Gandhi Stopped From Temple Visit

The ninth day of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra kicked off with heightened tension. The Nyay Yatra set forth from the camp towards the Bordowa Than. Shri Gandhi was slated to visit and offer prayers at the temple of Shri Sankardev. Born in Bordowa, Shrimanta Sankardev was a renowned poet, playwright, singer, dancer, and social reformer in the 15th-16th century. The Congress Party had obtained prior permission for Shri Gandhi’s temple visit.

However, despite this, upon reaching the Bordowa Than temple this morning, Shri Gandhi was barred from entering, citing law and order issues by the state government. Strangely, the restriction on temple entry was explicitly imposed on Shri Rahul Gandhi, while Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and others were allowed. In protest, Shri Gandhi, along with Congress senior leader K.C. Venugopal, Youth Congress President B.V. Srinivas, and several Congress leaders and workers, staged a peaceful sit-in on the road. The gathering sang the Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram bhajan, and both men and women joined in solidarity. Shri Gandhi interacted with the people present, including children.

#BharatJodoNyayYatra

Addressing the media, Shri Gandhi stated, ‘The order to prevent me from entering the temple came from ‘above’ They don’t want me to go to the temple. Sankardev Ji presented the ideals of Assam to everyone. I thought that since we were here, we should go to his temple and pay homage. We are also following in the footsteps of Sankardev, not spreading hatred. However, the state government prevented me from entering Shri Sankardev’s temple, citing issues with law and order. I was told it’s a problem of law and order. Gaurav Gogoi can go, and everyone else can go, but only Rahul Gandhi cannot. It’s okay, no problem. Whenever I get the chance, I will go.’

Due to the state government’s cowardly action, the entire schedule of the journey before lunch was disrupted. Congress Secretary Shri Jairam Ramesh provided details of the undemocratic actions of the State Government.

‘You need to understand the chronology. On January 11, two of our MLAs and on January 19, our MP Gaurav Gogoi met with the Satradhikar of Bordowa Than and mentioned Rahul Gandhi Ji’s visit on January 22. Both times, this desire was welcomed and supported.

On the evening of January 20, the Chief Minister of Assam stated that there could be a problem with law and order, keeping this in mind, the Assam government decided that Rahul Ji could not go to Bordowa Than on the 22nd morning. But he can visit the temple after 3 pm. The next day, at 11:30 am, the Satradhikar reiterated the Chief Minister’s statement.’

Around 8:20 am today, Rahul Ji reached Bordowa. The barricades were placed 17 kilometers before the temple. MP Gaurav Gogoi and MLA Shivamani Baruah were allowed to go upon our request. If they had stopped our local MLA from going to Brodowa Than, it would have been an attack on our democracy. Although there is a daily attack on our democracy.’

No matter how many conspiracies the government may hatch, Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will not stop. Following this fundamental principle, Shri Rahul Gandhi’s convoy set out on its journey again after lunch. With the transfer of the national flag at the Assam-Meghalaya border, an official announcement was made upon entering the Meghalaya border.

Shri Rahul Gandhi now proceeded towards the Nongpoh village in Meghalaya, passing through Jorabat with thousands in attendance. Here, Shri Rahul Gandhi undertook a nearly 2-kilometer Padyatra. The Yatra reached the ground at Pahamsyiem Village, where Shri Rahul Gandhi addressed the crowd.

He said, ‘Thank You for the tremendous welcome when I arrived. Thank you for walking with me in the last 1-2 km.

Meghalaya is not ruled by Meghalaya but from Delhi, and this is unacceptable to us. The nation has been facing the highest level of unemployment in the last 30 years, The Home Minister himself has called the Meghalaya government the most corrupt government in the nation. And immediately after calling the Meghalaya government the most corrupt, he partnered with it. There is an illegal coal transport scam, the assembly dome collapse scam. These are clear for all to see. Your language is not included in the Eighth Schedule. There are 22 languages included in the Eighth Schedule, but your language Garo and Khasi have no place in that.’

With this address, the ninth day of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra concluded, and the convoy proceeded towards Ribhoi.
