Day 1: Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra Begins

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra got off to a rousing start from Manipur, taking its first steps towards bringing ‘Nyay’ to the citizens of India.

In a journey spanning 66 days, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will start from Thoubal district in Manipur and will cover a distance of 6713 km, crossing 100 Lok Sabha constituencies, 337 Assembly Constituencies, and 110 districts. It will conclude in Mumbai on March 20.

The Yatra was launched in grand fashion when Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi reached the venue with an eager crowd of around 20,000 supporters enthusiastically raising slogans of ‘Nyay Ka Haq Milne Tak’ and ‘Saho Mat, Daro Mat.’. Mr. Gandhi paid a floral tribute to the martyrs at Khongjom War Memorial before arriving at the launch ceremony. During his speech, Congress Party President Kharge ji criticised the Modi government for their failure in protecting the rights of Indians.

Commenced Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, today, by offering my heartfelt tributes to the courageous martyrs of Manipur at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex. The extraordinary bravery and sacrifice of those who fought valiantly against the British for freedom and honor continues to inspire us till today. Their legacy motivates us to work tirelessly towards preserving peace and justice in our country.

He said- ‘Manipur has been facing violence since May 3, 2023, and PM has no time to even talk about it. Forget about coming here and listening to you people. He has all the time in the world to visit temples and share photos of swimming in the Sea. He has time to visit Mumbai or Kerala and share photos with his new attires, but he has no time to come here. In Manipur, innocent lives are lost, women are facing atrocities, and people’s lives are miserable. Yet our PM is not bothered about it.’

Shri Kharge added, ‘The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has been planned to create public awareness about this. The Central Government is showcasing an irresponsible attitude and insensitivity. They are taking everything for granted. There will be a national-level discussion on this during this Yatra. It will be similar to what happened during the Bharat Jodo Yatra last year.’

After Shri Kharge, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi addressed the crowd. About the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, he said, ‘The major portion of this Yatra will be covered by Bus. Due to the Lok Sabha Elections in 2024, we have to be cognisant of time.’

Mr. Gandhi further added – ‘Manipur is a symbol of the BJP’s hatred, RSS’s hatred. For the BJP, Manipur is not a part of the country. So much violence has happened here; the lives and livelihoods of the people have been destroyed, but the PM has not yet come to Manipur. PM does not see the pain of Manipur. That is why we have decided to start this Yatra from Manipur.

You have lost everything you value because of the ideology of the BJP, because of the politics of the BJP, because of the hatred that the BJP and the RSS spread in their politics.

We understand the hurt, the loss, the sadness that you have been through, and we promise you, we commit to you that we will bring back what you valued… we will bring back the harmony, the peace, the affection that this state has always been known for. The question arises – Why Nyay Yatra? Because we are going through a period of great injustice in India- social, economic and political injustice… injustice against the people of Manipur, the traditions of Manipur, but also injustice across the nation.’

Shri Mallikarjun Kharge handed over the National Flag to Mr. Gandhi and announced the launch of the Yatra. Five young children from a relief camp in Lambing district of Manipur were the first batch of Co-passengers with Mr. Gandhi on the ‘Mohabbat ki Dukaan’’ bus. When Mr. Gandhi and Congress President Shri Kharge boarded the bus, the young children handed over their tickets to them with broad smiles. It was a symbol of love and hope for all of Manipur.

“Any individual in the country who feels subjected to injustice, experiencing any form of unfair treatment, holds the potential to transform into a Nyay Yoddha. If you harbour the aspiration to become a Nyay Yoddha, give a missed call at 9891802024.”
